Tēnā koutou i tēnei ahiahi
Last week, I had the privilege to visit schools in Christchurch and to understand their curriculum. While there I also visited the Christchurch Library where I saw this quote by Margeret Mahy
Reading is very creative; it's not just a passive thing.
I write a story; it goes out into the world; somebody reads it and, by reading it completes it.
This got me thinking about the need to approach learning and opportunities for children with a creative mindset and the importance of creativity. This would enable adults and tamariki to see creativity as the heartbeat of their learning journey. We would be able to share the real essence of education and celebrate this creativity in the rhythm of the music, the stroke of a brush, the dance of light and colour, the movement of a pen, and the power of storytelling.
Looking at learning through creativity and an arts lens would help encourage our students to find their own canvas for self-expression, collaboration and a sense of belonging.
It is important to recognise the importance of creativity in shaping confident, empathetic individuals. Looking at learning through creativity and the Arts provides a safe space for self-discovery and collaboration, enhancing not just academic skills but also emotional intelligence.
This approach will also ensure that our community is richer and more colourful with every pen stroke, brushstroke and melody.

Whānau Hiringa
Hiringa has been focusing on how we are connected in a community, and the roles we each have within one. As part of this, the akōnga have been interviewing their whānau on their role in the community. They will also be interviewing a member of the community to gain a broader perspective and understanding of who makes up our local area, and how we all contribute. Hiringa walked from the school to the Maungawhau summit last Friday in order for us to see our local community from a different perspective. On our way there and back we looked at all of the businesses and public spaces that are a part of our community.

Intermediate School News

Basketball
Congratulations to the basketball team who won the last game of the season against Wesley Intermediate in a nail-bitingly close one point win, securing the trophy as winners of the Sunryz Basketball League for this year. Our massive thanks go to Alex and Terangi for coaching the team this year, and to all the parents for their support. Well done team!

Volleyball
The CZ volleyball team headed out to their tournament at Eventfinder Stadium at the end of last term. They had a great time, facing tough competition and managed to keep the scores close and bring energy and enthusiasm to every game. Great work everyone!
Athletics Day
The Intermediate headed out to Mt Smart last week for our annual Athletics Day. There were lots of eager competitors, and many school records broken during the day. Thank you to Bhavana for all her hard work organising the day, and to the many parents who came along to help.
Here are the results from the day. Good luck to all those heading to the Central Zone competition later in the term.
